Last night saw the latest in our summer #trailrunning series. I thought I'd share a quick recap for those who might be keen to try trail running, or interested in coming along to an upcoming event.
In the interest of being environmental, and to include a mini road trip (!) - a small group of us met on St Andrew's Square - to car pool from town to the start point at Hillend.
Getting there early allowed everyone to meet and get to know each other. With such amazing weather we were not alone - and there were another few groups gearing up for an evening run.
With varying levels of experience, including one person who had never been trail running before, the plan was to stick together as a group as much as possible, take it slowly up the steep hills, and maintain a reasonable pace along the peaks, on the downhill and on the flats.
Climbing straight away up through a small nature reserve, we warmed up quickly, before emerging into the sunshine to make our way up to Caerketton Hill.
For me it's always therapeutic to have views from up high, a big sky, soaking up the southerly wind, and with the sun on my face! :)
After a quick breather and capturing the moment on camera, we kicked on towards Allermuir..
A sweeping downhill linked us onto the main track looping around towards Swanston. A few final hill climbs and sighting a soaring buzzard for good measure brought us back around the golf course, finishing with a nice gentle decline making up the home straight. We got back to the cars, re-hydrated, and then grabbed a very well earnt shandy in the Steading before heading home.
A great, fun vibe, some amazing people, and awesome scenery - we'd love to see you out on the trails soon!
